Week 9 : Market of Impossible Things Critique

We critiqued the market of Impossible Things. We took a quote from one of the readings that we thought helped guide our overall critique and that is "The viewer is not immediately aware of everything that their eyes see". We feel like this relates because the market itself was a bit confusing and things were not apparent at first glance. It seemed to be broken up into three categories; Past, Present, and Future. However, it also seemed to be split into sensory categories such as touch, taste, sight, etc. So different senses fell into different sections of time, however, the order seemed a bit random and not very clear.

Many of individual offerings were still quite entertaining and a few were especially cool. Our favourite was the one set up in a black room with a black light and you were told to draw a dream. Then you walked into a room and saw all the dreams hanging from the wall painting with neon colours that glowed under the black light.

The overall atmosphere of the market could be described as dreamy, confusing, and ethereal. Logistically there were some issues with flow, seeing how there was a decent amount of waiting in line. This translated to not everyone getting a chance to get to every offering before the time was up. Most of our group members did not make it to the last 2/3 offerings. Overall we thought that there were lots of cool individual ideas but that the over arching concept was slightly missed, or at least not communicated as clearly as it could have been.

WEEK 6

This week we had our first prototype market. We used this time to get a better idea of how everyone should be organised, the flow of the market place, and specifically everyones spatial requirements and equipment they need. We then drafted up this document for all groups to fill out.

Week 5

In week 5 we settled on our organisational model. We decided to delegate 4 groups to form an organisational committee. This organisational committee is now in charge of overseeing the whole market and will need bring a market offering themselves. These 4 groups are roughly broken up into 4 different categories: Documenting, Requirements, Communication, and Spatial.  Our group is spatial.
